WF Summer 2011: MegaHouse

Being under the Bandai brand, MegaHouse has the luxury of making some of the most recognizable characters in the otakusphere. As such, it’s no surprise that they’ve been quite successful in populating their figure resume with characters that can make a wide range of fans scream with primal, unbridled joy, including me.

Emperor Lelouch from “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2”

I’m a very big fan of Code Geass and while some male collectors would have an aversion to getting male figures, I’m not one of them. Seeing the emperor version of one of my all time favorite anime characters in PVC glory just made me unabashedly giddy and rolling on the floor in sheer joy. Lelouch looks absolutely gorgeous and stupendously fabulous here and he’ll be a nice Christmas present for me.

Saito Hajime from the anime “Rurouni Kenshin”

MegaHouse continues its testosterone-driven assault by finally showing the prototype of Kenshin’s rival-turned-ally Saito. Personally, the sculpt looks even better than that of Kenshin who somehow turned more bishie than normal. The Gatotsu stance is a great pose for this highly popular black-and-white principled character. Definitely getting this one as well.

Sakata Gintoki “Shiroyasha Ver.” from Gintama

Gintama has quite a following in Japan and MegaHouse has capitalized on this by launching a full lineup of figures for the franchise. Protagonist Gintoki returns for another round, this time in a more dynamic pose and different set of clothes. I’m not a fan of the franchise but I’m sure there will be thousands of others who’ll snatch this up in a heartbeat.

Merry Nightmare from the anime “Yumekui Merry”

Remember the MegaHouse Merry I mentioned in my Alter post? We’ll here she is. I find the Alter one much more appealing due to the better overall sculpt and more dynamic pose (the pose on this one is just plain weird), but once again, this is just a prototype so the end product might turn out better than this.

Amami Haruka from the game "Idolm@ster 2"

The Idolm@ster line has been a staple of MegaHouse for quite some time now and it looks like they’re starting a refresh coinciding with the new costume designs for Idolm@ster 2. Sporting more elaborate details and personally a more appealing sculpt than the first version, the top idol Haruka is looking mighty fine here.

There are other new figures announced which I will not be discussing at length since I’ve got absolutely no idea about their source materials, but I’ll be posting them below for your enjoyment.

Kumashiro Maya from the anime “Sekimatsu Occult Gakuin”

On a side note: This one looks appealing enough to entice me into watching the anime.

Yukiko Hime from “Dororon Enma-kun Meeramera”
